ALWAYS BETTER WHEN WE'RE TOGETHER.

my heart is so full today.
happy to be back with my better half!

our first day together, we ran a few errands around town
and met up with friends at barleys to catch up over happy hour.
this place is one of our favorites and holds some special memories for us.

i feel for anyone who does the long distance relationships. over the last four years there have been several times we have been stuck in that scenario and it's just never easy or enjoyable. but still, i am thankful for it. we spent day after day getting to know each other over the phone and writing letters. we fell in love, we spent a year together, did another summer of long distance ( a shorter distance but still the same ) lived together for a few years and now we're back at it again before re-uniting for good ;) i think it really tests not only you as an individual but your relationship as a whole. it allows you to grow and maintain your independence, which is important. but it also allows a sense of faith to develop within you and your significant other. and it's such a strong, unexplainable feeling.

i always felt that "this never gets any easier." and while that is still kind of true... ( we really like being together ) this latest trip wasn't too bad. technology, i am especially grateful for you!

things that made the distance manageable :

+ f a c e t i m e  //  it's a game changer. it was so comforting just to see him smile.
+ p h o t o s  //  we sent each other silly videos and photos of places we visited.
+ t a l e n t i  //  the salted caramel with truffles, we became friends... but not in one sitting.
+ f a m i l y  //  thank you lord for being surrounded by a supportive family.
+ f r i e n d s  //  for keeping me busy and smiling with long talks and coffee dates.
+ l i k e c r a z y  //  for giving me something to watch twice a day, every day. and a good cry...

  1. My fiance and I were long distance for almost a year and I know how hard it can be. However, I think I totally appreciated him more because our days together were few and far between! I think because we have that in our past I'm able to appreciate him today more than other couples that haven't been through it can understand.

  2. Beautifully written post, Sara. My boyfriend (of 6.5yrs) and I spent the first 2.5 years of our relationship long distance. I can not see a day that I will ever take him for granted. It's amazing what the distance can do for you, if you're two smart and loving people who truly want to be together.

    1. Thanks so much McKenna. I know how you feel. We hadn't spent more than a few days apart in over two years so even just a few short weeks felt like a lifetime.

  7. Oh I am so glad I ran across your blog and this post. My boyfriend and I have been together for about a year- the entire time being long distance- and I look forward to the day I can see him anytime.

So glad to hear you two are reunited!
