Our first stop in Florida was a 24 hour stay in Daytona Beach. We arrived in the early afternoon and the city was in full summer party mode. We checked in to the Holiday Inn Oceanfront where we were upgraded to a corner room with a beautiful ocean view. We relaxed for a while on the balcony enjoying the cool, salty breeze before heading down to the bar to grab a frozen drink. We sat poolside listening to live music and researching where to grab dinner. The weather called for storms, so we walked down to the beach for a quick dip and to watch the tide go out. Afterwards, we cleaned up, grabbed a cab, and went down to the boardwalk. We walked around for a bit, admiring the colorful town before ending up at The Lucky Rooster for dinner + drinks. With an early morning ahead of us, we called it a night and made our way back to the room. We spent a few minutes watching the stars from the balcony before heading to bed. The next morning, we watched the sunrise before packing up and hitting the road.

I think most of our twenty four hours in Daytona were spent on that hotel balcony and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

  1. as a native Floridian who just left Daytona for a land locked town (first time in my life!) I can tell you those beach sunrises are unrivaled. I never realized until now. Thanks for sharing :)
