LIFE LATELY; A FEW DAYS IN NASHVILLE.

after spending christmas in knoxville with carter's family, we drove to nashville to celebrate my birthday and ring in the new year with mine. i'm not sure about you, but for us, each visit home means a week of eating, drinking, and celebrating something so you better hope you packed your favorite yoga pants because that's really all you will wear! of course, this visit was no different.

we made sure to stop by burger up because to this day, it's my favorite burger and the truffle fries just can't be beat. i had to have an acai bowl from franklin juice co because it felt more like summer than it did winter. we made plenty of coffee runs to frothy monkey and high brow brew. and we finally got to check out the flipside - they have a 20$ bloody mary that is a meal! we chose a basic one.

i spent a few extra days at home to make a doctor's appointment i'd waited six months for. i was able to stop by one of my favorite shops, imogene + willie, and pick up a few new records at grimey's. the best part was that i got to spend some quality time with my family and our new dog, gracie. being home is always so good for my soul.

SO LONG, 2015!

i'm not entirely sure how this year has already come and gone, but here i am, hours into the new year and looking back on everything we experienced these last twelve months. so here we go!

in january, we spent most of our time indoors due to the winter weather. our first winter in the midwest did not disappoint when it came to snow. however, being so far away from the city was tough at times.

in february, we celebrated valentine's day with strawberry cake and a night in kansas city. we got to see ben howard for the first time and it was amazing. we also had another huge snow storm which kept us at home.

in march, we got a tiny glimpse of spring and discovered smithville lake. we spent many weekends biking and enjoying lunch by the water. we also drove to iowa to visit my sweet friend, whitney, who gave birth to her first baby girl.

in april we travelled to boulder for easter weekend. it was our first visit to colorado and we fell in love with the town. we also flew home to photograph and celebrate my brother's engagement!

in may we spent a week in charleston for our annual family vacation. it's always bittersweet visiting our old home. we celebrated six years since we began dating with a mini-fiesta (cinco de mayo)

in june we spent all our time outdoors. we drove down to kansas city every weekend. we went to the zoo, different parks, and explored the midwest.

in july, i spent a lot of time in nashville, celebrating my future sister in law with bridal showers and wedding planning. we also went to a waterpark in missouri and enjoyed peaches from the farmer's market.

in august we celebrated carter's birthday by eating pizza and going to a concert of one of his favorite bands. we also travelled to kauai for a week long vacation under the sun with my famliy.

september was hard. the month started off great with a trip home for labor day weekend and to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. but a few days later, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. the next few weeks were a blur.

in october, we spent a long weekend back in colorado. we saw ben howard at red rocks and camped underneath the aspen trees. i was in nashville for five weeks leading up to my brother's wedding. i had the best time hanging with my mom while she was recovering from surgery. it was basically a three week sleepover! my brother had a beautiful fall wedding and i gained another sister! and to top it all off, my mom was declared as cancer free as a doctor can claim.

in november, we were all just thankful. we also celebrated my sister in law's thirtieth birthday by renting a limo and drinking at our favorite place in town. and blasting journey all the way home.

in december, we picked our christmas tree, got our first snowfall of the season, decorated our home with lights and garland, and then travelled home for the holidays. i turned twenty eight. we hiked up to my favorite local mountain, my parents got a new puppy, and i kissed my husband at midnight and almost promptly fell asleep.

we know that 2016 will be filled with so many new adventures. so here's to the new year!
